Shibbir Ahmed, Manhattan, NY: The traditional National Dominican Day Parade filled Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan with vibrant music, colorful dance groups, and massive crowds on Sunday for its forty-fourth consecutive year. Operating under the theme "Dominicanos: Identidad y Cultura," the event drew approximately 400,000 spectators to celebrate the deep historical and cultural footprint of the Dominican community in New York City.  

The morning festivities commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by senior government officials, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who emphasized the strong presence of the community by noting that one in every eight New Yorkers traces their roots to the Dominican Republic. Governor Kathy Hochul also addressed attendees, voicing strong support for immigrant residents and emphasizing the state's dedication to protecting local communities from federal enforcement overreach.  

The grand procession featured over forty elaborate floats, traditional folkloric attire, and thousands of marchers moving down the designated route from 37th Street to 55th Street. Dr. Ramon Tallaj, founder of the Somos Community Care healthcare network serving over one million Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries in the city, served as this year's official grand marshal. To ensure a safe environment for the hundreds of thousands of participants and families in attendance, the NYPD implemented heightened security protocols, utilizing extended patrols, double barricades along the route, and increased surveillance across transit hubs and surrounding streets.
