Victory Day celebrated in the Netherlands
Hague: The Embassy of Bangladesh in The Hague celebrated the 47th Victory Day on 16 December 2017 with due solemnity and festivity in the Embassy premises. The programme commenced with the hoisting of National Flag at full mast by Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal. A large number of Bangladesh community living in the Netherlands and the officials of the Embassy along with their members of family attended the ceremony.
One minute silence was observed in honour of the martyred freedom fighters who sacrificed their invaluable lives in the Liberation War. Homage was also paid to late Minister Sayedul Hoque, Freedom Fighter and former Chittagong City Corporation Mayor A B M Mohiudding Chowdhury and Mayor (North) of Dhaka Anisul Hoque. Messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh issued on the occasion were recited by the officials of the Embassy.
A discussion session followed, where the leaders of Holland Awami League and other members of community spoke. They paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They also highlighted the significance of Liberation War and the glorious Victory Day. In an open discussion session, members of Bangladesh community shared their views on how Embassies of Bangladesh can contribute in the progressive journey of prosperous Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands Sheikh Mohammed Belal, in his speech, paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled the sacrifices of the four national leaders, freedom fighters and Biranganas for the liberation of Bangladesh. He mentioned few instances on how Bangabandhu has been working as a source of inspiration, even after his demise, towards achieving our long cherished goal of Sonar Bangla. He urged members of Bangladesh community to join with renewed vision in the development journey of Bangladesh from their respective positions. He also emphasized inculcating the spirit of nationalism and our liberation war among the future generations for representing Bangladesh in the future.
Later, a colourful cultural programme was organized at the Chancery premises, where the expatriate community as well as members of family of the officials of the Embassy enthusiastically took part. The artists put up patriotic songs, traditional folk dance and poems commemorating the Victory Day and the spirit of Liberation War. A young band of Bangla music named Trimatrik rendered a touching musical presentation at the end.
