Bangladesh Festival 2017 organized by Bangladesh Embassy, Addis Ababa
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia organized Bangladesh Festival 2017 on 18 November 2017 in the Chancery premises. The day-long programme was part of the Embassy’s ongoing drive towards showcasing the development achievements and initiatives, promoting national interests, highlighting the rich culture and heritage and enhancing the glorious positive image of our country.
The arrangement was the first of its kind organized by this Embassy in Addis Ababa, the hub of African diplomacy since it started its operations last year. All 130 Diplomatic Missions along with African Union (AU), UN Offices and many other regional and international organizations based in Ethiopia, senior Government officials, prominent members of the society, businessmen, academicians of local educational institutions, artists, media personnel were invited to the day-long programme.
From the very early hours of opening, people started flocking around the Festival venue. The Advisor for the Ethiopian Prime Minister (having Ministerial Rank) visited the Festival. In addition, the festival was attended by the Head of many Diplomatic Missions including Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, China, Chile, Chad, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Republic of Korea, Democratic Republic of Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Russia, UK, USA, Sri Lanka, Arab League in Addis Ababa along with their families, officials of many important government offices including Foreign Ministry, International and Regional Organizations based in Ethiopia including UN Offices, AU, influential businessmen and many prominent persons of the local community visited the festival. In the seminar/discussion, a number of Foreign Ambassadors and diplomats who were previously posted to Dhaka, Bangladeshi expatriates, business representatives from both countries, Officials from International and Regional Organizations took part enthusiastically.
There was also a presentation on the current development scenario of Bangladesh highlighting the achievements and initiatives of the Government of Bangladesh materializing the Vision 2021. Attendees from all walks of life came to visit the programme and watched the traditional Bangladeshi live music, dance, recitals, fashion show, took part in quiz programme, participated at the Mehdi design, ‘Churi’ (bangles), ‘Tip’ and floral decoration, relished the Bangladeshi foods and purchased traditional Bangladeshi goods. Nearly 45 different items of Bangladeshi cuisine were prepared by the Embassy officials and expatriates who participated in the programme. People kept visiting till the end and enjoyed to their heart’s content.
The High watermark of the Festival was the participation of a good number reputed Bangladeshi private business conglomerates like Pran-RFL, Square, Beximco Pharma, Globe, Sajeeb Group, Urmi Group, Rahimafrooz, DBL Group, Golden Fibre Trade Centre Ltd who were invited by the Mission for this festival. All of the afore-mentioned companies displayed their products and services following the Mission’s derivative to expand trade and business ties between Bangladesh and Ethiopia.
Also, some local reputed companies partnered with the Mission for the festival. The officials from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health applauded the Bangladeshi pharmaceutical products and assured to do the necessities for the convenient access of Bangladeshi pharma products to the Ethiopian market. The interest of the local as well as other foreign nationals towards Bangladeshi food, may encourage some Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to bring the taste of beautiful Bangladesh to the Ethiopian shore. The programme continued well beyond the declared hour. With the approaching of the dusk, the end of the day-long programme of the first Bangladesh Festival in Ethiopia was finally announced.
